The 2024 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with We Have a Story to Tell: 350 Years of the South Carolina National Guard. Part of the Carolina Stories series by South Carolina ETV, this film features a partnership between the SC Military Museum and the SC Military History Foundation to tell the stories of the SC Army National Guard and the SC Air National Guard. The Guard’s history is long and rich, dating back to 1670, and its service to the United States and to South Carolina is enduring. See how the Guard has served both at home and abroad throughout its history.
The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 22nd, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.

The 2024 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with Pirates of the Carolinas. Part of the Carolina Stories Series by SCETV, this hour long film digs up the true tales of treachery and villainy that occurred off the coasts of North and South Carolina during the Golden Age of Piracy.

The Horry County Museum presents a program all about shark’s teeth by Charles Shelton on Saturday, June 1st, at 1:00 PM.
“Shark Tooth Charles” has been hunting for shark’s teeth for close to 40 years. It's his passion and he loves to give his time to educate, inspire, and enlighten others about the world of shark teeth hunting. In this program you'll learn about shark teeth, shark jaws, and most importantly how to hunt for shark’s teeth. You'll also learn about what can be found locally on our beaches. We hope that you walk away ready to hunt some teeth!

The 2024 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with Uncommon Courage: The D-Day Battle of Graignes. This documentary tells the remarkable story of the little known battle of Graignes described as the “Alamo of D-Day”. When the D-Day invasion of France began on June 6, 1944, approximately 180 American paratroopers were accidentally dropped far from their drop zone, and landed outside the small village of Graignes in Normandy, right in the path of a major German counterattack. Assisted by French villagers, the American paratroopers at Graignes made a courageous stand against a force of German S.S. troops that was ten time their size.

The Horry County Museum presents a program on snake identification by Mark Bara on Saturday, June 8th, at 1:00 PM. Bara will discuss the different snakes found in South Carolina and how to identify them.
Mark Bara is a professionally trained wildlife biologist with Wildlife Society certification. He has a BS in Agriculture from Cornell University, and after serving 3 ½ years of shipboard duty as a USCG officer, he used his GI Bill benefits to obtain a Master’s degree in Wildlife Science at the University of Georgia. He was employed for 33 years by SCDNR, retiring as a Regional Coordinator for a nine county area in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina. He has worked with hundreds of landowners and hunting clubs, assisting them with habitat improvement and harvest strategies. Among numerous other duties, he was responsible for programs on several public wildlife management areas and heritage preserves, wild turkey restoration, and assisting farmers with USDA cost share programs for soil conservation and wildlife habitat improvements. During the early to mid-1970s, he also conducted alligator research during which time he captured 1,000 alligators.

The 2024 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with The Mapping of Kosciuszko’s Tunnel. Part of the Carolina Stories Series by SCETV, this 30 minute film highlights the story of the Kosciuszko tunnel and the technology behind the 3D mapping and preservation efforts concerning the little known tunnel that is a part of the Ninety Six National Historic Site in Ninety Six, South Carolina. The Mapping of Kosciuszko’s Tunnel project is collaboration between SCETV, The University of South Florida (USF), The Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies (AIST) and the National Park Service.

The Horry County Museum will host a free concert, part of Varna International’s Muzika! 2024 series, on Saturday, June 15th at 1:00 PM. The public is invited to enjoy Baroque to the Future featuring Levon Ambartsumian, violin & Shakhida Azimkhodjaeva on violin and viola.
Kalin and Sharon Tchonev started Varna International over twenty years ago with the goal to bring high quality choral training to Bulgarian school teachers. Their company has since grown into a globally recognized festival organizer that specializes in large-scale performances and music training academies for conductors, singers, and instrumentalists throughout Europe, Israel, and the United States.
