The L.W. Paul Living History Farm will host two free hands-on workshops on indigo dyeing. Workshops will take place on March 7th and March 21st at 2 PM. Participants will learn about the history of indigo in South Carolina and have the opportunity to design and dye their own handkerchief. Space is limited, pre-registration is required. A workshop geared towards children will be available Saturday, March 8th at the Farm. Available sessions are 9, 9:30, 10 or 10:30, please specify which session you would like for your child upon registering.

Join us Saturday, March 8th, for a free 30 minute activity at the Farm! Parents can sign children up for a half hour session between 9 AM-11 AM. Group sizes will be limited. Children will learn about indigo as a cash crop in South Carolina. They’ll also design and dye their own small bag to take home.

The public is invited to view a special Quilts of Valor presentation at the Horry County Museum. Quilts made especially for local veterans will be presented by the Myrtle Beach Shorebirds Quilts of Valor Group on Saturday, March 8th at 1 PM. The quilts to be awarded will be on display March 1st-6th at the Horry County Museum.
The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF) is to cover all service members and veterans, touched by war, with a comforting and healing quilt. Since 2003, the foundation, now a national organization, has awarded over 400,000 quilts to veterans throughout the country. To nominate a veteran for a Quilt of Valor, visit www.qovf.org.

We’re celebrating textiles throughout March at the Horry County Museum! In addition to the free programming, you’ll have a chance to win a door prize at every event! Join us Tuesday, March 11th at 11 AM as Curator Abigail Geedy shares the evolution of the use, availability, and selection of feedsack fabrics in the early 1900s.

The 2025 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with The Baruchs of Hobcaw, part of the Carolina Stories Series by SCETV.
In 1718, 17,500 acres of pristine land in Georgetown County became a colonial land grant, or barony, from the King of England to one of the Lords Proprietors. The Native Americans called it “hobcaw,” meaning between the waters. Purchased by Bernard Baruch in 1905, Hobcaw Barony eventually passed into the hands of Baruch’s daughter, Belle, who created a foundation to protect it from development. This film tells the story of the Baruchs and Hobcaw Barony, which is today home to USC’s Baruch Marine Field Laboratory and Clemson’s Belle W. Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science.
The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, March 12th, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.
