The L.W. Paul Living History Farm will host a free hands-on workshop on indigo dyeing on May 8th at 2 PM. Participants will learn about the history of indigo in South Carolina and have the opportunity to design and dye their own handkerchief. Space is limited to 15 people, pre-registration is required. The 2021 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with SC A to Z. This film, part of the Carolina Stories Series by SCETV, takes a light-hearted look at favorite places and homegrown things, spanning the alphabet to showcase all that South Carolina is and has to offer. From the ACE Basin and the Arthur Ravenel Bridge to the Yorktown aircraft carrier and Zentrum (BMW’s visitor’s center), South Carolina A to Z is a vivid look at the unique offerings of South Carolina. Cameras spotlight the familiar (Brookgreen Gardens, Palmetto trees) to the not-so-familiar (Edgefield pottery, locally-grown rice, UFO Welcome Center) for a glimpse of what makes our state so special.
The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 12th, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.

Join us for free 30 minute Saturday activities at the Farm! Parents can sign children up for one of four half hour sessions starting at 9 AM. Group sizes will be limited to 5 children per session to help ensure social distancing. On May 15th, children will learn how butter is made. Kids will have a chance to make and sample their own butter!

The 2021 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with the locally produced film Swamp Fox: Francis Marion & the American Revolution. . Produced and narrated by historian Rod Gragg, this film follows the life of Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion from his birth in 1732 near Monck’s Corner, SC to his experiences as a sailor, and service in the French and Indian War, where he learned the ambush fighting techniques that would frustrate the British in the Revolutionary War and earn him the nickname ‘Swamp Fox’.
The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 19th, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.

Warmer weather means the start of summer at the Grand Strand but it also means that hurricane season is coming. Join Thomas Bell, Public Information Officer with Horry County Emergency Management, as he discusses what you need to do to be prepared. Visitors will also have a look at what the Emergency Operations Center does during a storm to ensure Horry County is ready for impacts. Whether you are new to the area, or just need a few refreshers on preparedness, this presentation will provide you with steps to get through the season. Come with questions!

Have you ever wondered how laundry was done before modern washing machines? Visit the L.W. Paul Living History Farm to try your hand at doing laundry the old fashioned way on May 25th from 9 AM until 12 PM and see how clothes would have been cleaned using a scrub board and wash pot.

The 2021 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with Beach Break: A History of Surfing in South Carolina, part of the Carolina Stories Series by SCETV. Relive the life and times of South Carolina surfers as they share their amazing stories of salty days in the Atlantic. Take a look at the industry that has developed from the sport of surfing: the surf shop. What began with surfboards, a bar of wax and maybe some cheese sandwiches has evolved into a radical, fiercely competitive, new game that includes high-tech, brand-name clothing, cutting-edge videos and locally made custom surfboards.
